Most people today experience stress in one form or another. Although stress is extremely common, there are numerous people who are unable to determine if they are experiencing it. It is highly imperative to note if we are experiencing stress so that we will be able to cut it down immediately.

Stress has a lot of negative effects to our mind and body. It has been listed as a probable cause for many ailments as it puts our immune system in a compromising state and it also hampers our daily activities as we experience stress related headaches, muscle tension and a whole lot more.

Here is a basic checklist to know if you are already experiencing stress:

  • Incessant irritation. This is one the major symptoms of stress. People who are stressed out easily get annoyed and snap at almost anything with the slightest provocation or even none at all.
  • Irregular sleeping patterns. As the mind is not relaxed, it is unable to induce sleep causing fatigue that adds more to the stress and irritability the next day.
  • Gastrointestinal problems. Bing stressed prods the stomach to produce more acid. This can cause ulcers and hyperacidity. Sometimes Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a common symptom of stress.
  • Head and Body pains. Stress can cause our muscles to tense up. If you experience frequent headaches, stress may be what is causing it.

Stress can have a big impact on our daily lives and cause us to feel so many discomfort. That’s why it should be noted early if you suffer from stress.

And also I must add, some people eat to much when they are stressed this thing leading to stomach problems.

It’s more simple to run when you are stressed. It releaves you from energy a little bit and “fresh” you. :)

If you have any doubts about any of the symptoms listed above you should seek medical advice.

I recently took a holiday in Torquay where the resort that I stayed had a spa (The Aztec Spa at TLH) one of the therapists cited me as being stressed because of my irregular sleeping patterns, I have to say I don’t think she was far wrong. It is good to get away and unwind and more people should seek advice if they are showing similar symptoms to those detailed above.

    Konstantin,

Well, I like to think I’m not irritable (though I’m sure there are occasions where I am)!

The rest clearly apply to me and that is one reason why I had to recently leave my blog alone for a couple of days and ignore my emails.

Plus my in-laws are in town from out of state. That keeps me hopping!!!

Anyway, thanks for the tips. I know I need to integrate meditation into my daily routine but I am having trouble getting to that point. Intellectually I know I should but every day is a whirlwind and it is just not happening as often as it should!

When I see my acupuncturist in a few days, I’m sure he’ll remind me that I need to meditate as often as possible. I do my best for right now but I know there’s room for improvement!!

Stress can do major damage to one’s health!

Jeanne, it’s actually quite funny how the stressed mind actually resists finding time to meditate. That story you are telling is almost universal and probably applies to many other readers as well.

I like how Eckhard Tolle used to make fun of it: “I don’t have time now! I will focus on the now moment some time … later”

Humor helps as I have stated repeatedly in my posts. Just seeing the irony in all that and being able to laugh about stress patterns usually helps a lot.

    ;-)
