Useful Relaxation Techniques for Everyday Use

Babies are lucky, even though they experience stress the same way adults do, like when they don’t get the attention they need, they have all the time in the world to instinctively do what they do best to battle stress and fatigue,
and that’s resting and sleeping.
Because we are already adults and we have numerous responsibilities and obligations, which may be what is causing our stress, we can’t just drop everything that we need to do just to rest or go to sleep. We simply have to go on to finish the task at hand. But that doesn’t mean that we must completely continue on being stressed out, this could lead to depression, over fatigue or to some ailments and illnesses.
Relaxation differs for every people. Some love to watch TV while others would rather have peace and quiet and a good book. Whatever it is, what’s important is that you are able to shut out all the negative thoughts and worries and just be calm.
You should never stretch yourself to your limits. From time to time, try to get a quick rest. Just stop what you are doing for about five minutes, close your eyes and forget about everything that worries you. Soothing music can also help you achieve a state of calmness. While resting, feel every part of your body, try to tense your muscles and relax them repeatedly.
The body and our mind work hand in hand. Achieving relaxation is all about simultaneously freeing your mind from worries and allowing your body to rest.

I think that most people underestimate the damage that stress can have on one’s body. People need to be reminded that they should relax once in a while or they will face the consequences that stress can bring.
Thanks for reminding us and for showing us techniques.

I agree that every need to rest no matter how busy you are. In my case when I feel stressed a good massage and cooking is my way of unwinding.

I feel stressed sometimes, and when that happens I’d like to listen some music. Since the last 2 years, I listen to music for half an hour or even longer every night before I go to sleep. It works great, and I can forget about my worries.

i regularly practice sports, most of the time tennis and swimming, this is the only way i have to fight stress and it works great!
Mercola on 14 Oct 2008 at 6:12 am #
I have to agree with Andy’s comment. Sports is a great way to relieve stress, as long as it’s not competitive
I also find working out, or simply running, very relaxing.

Thanks for an informative article. It is very true that relaxation is different everyone. My idea of relaxing is reading a book whereas many other people find exercise relaxing. Different strokes for different folks:)

I use mediation every single to relax and prepare my subconscious mind to soak in my visions of a better lifestyle. This is the most powerful technique I’ve ever seen for relaxing the body, mind, spirit, and soul.
Another method I’ve been using lately is visualization with vision boards. Have you ever heard of them? They are images pasted on a board that represents your hopes, dreams, and goals. Studying these boards every days plants seeds of these goals within your subconscious mind. You can place images on the board that represent relaxation.
Your subconscious mind is where all of habits are formed. Combine these visualizations with mediation and affirmations, and the seed in your subconscious mind will begin to grow, sprouting a newly developed habit that is oriented towards your desired outcome, or goal - RELAXING!
John Assaraf does a better job of explaining this and showing you how to do it in his new book “The Complete Vision Board Kit.” I downloaded the free chapter here: http://tinyurl.com/56mfen

Relaxation is really necessary. I believe a lot of health problems come this way.

In my opinion, it’ really hard to have a full relaxation time. I mean with all the hush rush and all mambo jumbo we had to go thought everyday, to be a really relaxed person (a sleeping baby) is beginning to feel impossible nowadays. BTW, Great article !

I find music to be a great stress reliever or working out at the gym. Stress can be quite harmful, so it’s a good idea to have something that will calm you down.

Sleep (deep sleep not just sleep)will bring the best relaxation to our body. That works for me, an hour of a deep sleep is enough to make me wake up in a fresh condition. too bad it takes a lot more time before I can achieve the deep sleep state.

A comfortable king sized bed does the trick for me most of the time, but sometimes in order to get really relaxed I can’t watch TV or play at the computer for an hour before sleep.

In addition to meditation a good, well planned diet, complete with pure acai berry extract will help you sleep great!
