Ten Minutes Of Mindfulness Therapy A Day Can Make A Difference

Plainly turning off your thoughts and focusing your mind on being fully present at the moment without worrying about what had happened or what is about to happen can relax your muscles from the stress that your life brings.

That is the power that mindfulness can bring to your life.  According to Saundra Jain, PsyD, “Mindfulness meditation practices are effective interventions, and sometimes for mild to moderate conditions—depression and anxiety—super-effective as front lines.” Mindfulness can help you develop better habits and live simpler and healthier lives and have a better relationship with your friends, co-workers, family, and literally, every person around you.

Transform Yourself

A busy life can put your health at risk.   Your high cholesterol left unwatched due to unhealthy food, high blood pressure brought by stress, gaining or losing too much weight, and high blood sugars are just some of the health conditions that can cause stress.  According to Mary K. Tatum, LMHC, “Stress is variable and affects everyone differently.” It is essential to look after yourself for your own wellbeing.

Relaxation can help you fight stress, and one form of relaxation that can relieve your stress and take you away from the busyness life brings is practicing mindfulness.

Mindfulness therapy allows you to not think about your past and not worry about the future. According to Dino Paris, LMFT, “Mindfulness therapy is a clinical approach that helps clients feel more calm and present.  Clients in mindfulness therapy learn breathing and other meditative techniques to help them live in the present moment.” It is about being present in the moment without reservation, not worrying about your current experience and learning to accept what had happened.  Just as how we need to feed our body and keep it healthy through exercise, we need to consistently practice mindfulness even for 10 minutes a day to strengthen our mind and feel refreshed. You can walk away from the stress of thinking about what happened in the past or what the future may bring us.

It will transform you from a panicky worrier to a calm and happy person that you deserve to be.  Mindfulness will allow you to appreciate the blessings you have at the moment, thus reducing your stress.  With continuous practice, you’ll find yourself becoming more objective and more in control of yourself.

How To Start Mindfulness Therapy

It is important to set time (at least 10 minutes) each day.   Starting on your own is going to be tough, but some apps can encourage you to practice mindfulness meditations by yourself.  Choose a place where you can concentrate and where there are no distractions.

There are various techniques in practicing mindfulness –  basic mindfulness, body sensations, sensory, emotions – with the goal to achieve a state of alertness and focused relaxation by consciously paying attention to thoughts and awareness without judgment.

Mindfulness meditation is a practice you can do right in your cubicle at work during your break time, anywhere you feel comfortable to do deep breathing and where you can have a moment to yourself.

You may find it boring at first and you may be discouraged, but like any other skill, you can develop it over time. With continuous practice, learning more about it, and understanding its benefits, you will soon get the hang of it and will eventually be good at it.

Mindfulness activates areas of your brain that are usually not working during your usual tasks.  It increases your intelligence and creativity and expands memory aside from reducing your stress.
